Tihar – The Festival of Light

Tihar is a five-day festival in honour of Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth. It is also known as Yama Panchak, after Yama, the god of death. Each day has a specific significance, the first honours crows, the second dogs, the third cows, the fourth oxen, and the fifth, Bhai Tika, celebrates the bond between brothers and sisters. Houses are decorated with lights, and traditional songs, known as Bhailo and Deusi are performed throughout the festival.

Teej – The Festival for Women
