Day 1 – Arrival in Nepal & getting to know Kathmandu
Namaste and welcome to Nepal!
Upon arrival at Kathmandu Airport, one of our representatives will be waiting to welcome you. You can recognize him by the sign with our logo. After a warm welcome, he will take you by private car to your hotel in the heart of the city and assist you with check-in.After some time to freshen up, you embark on your first exploration of Kathmandu’s old city district with a local guide. You stroll through the lively streets of Asan, a historic neighborhood where a colorful market takes place daily and where you encounter a temple or stupa around every corner. The scent of incense and spices fills the air as you walk past old wooden facades and hidden courtyards.
Your visit ends at the impressive Basantapur Durbar Square, Kathmandu’s royal square. Once the residence of the Malla kings, this square is now an open-air museum of Newar architecture and a powerful symbol of the cultural richness of the Kathmandu Valley.
-
Day 2: Cultural highlights of Kathmandu
Today, together with your guide, you will discover the cultural highlights of the vibrant Kathmandu Valley. This day is dedicated to spirituality, ancient rituals, and impressive monuments on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
You start at Pashupatinath, the holiest Hindu complex in Nepal. Although the temple itself is accessible only to Hindus, you can witness a special ritual from across the river: the public cremations that take place here daily. In the serene chaos along the Bagmati River, you see pilgrims, rituals, and holy men – the colorful saddhus – dedicating their lives to the god Shiva.
Afterwards, you visit Boudhanath, the largest stupa in Nepal and the heart of the Tibetan community in the Kathmandu Valley. The immense white dome with the all-seeing eyes of Buddha is surrounded by prayer wheels, flags, and small shops where monks and pilgrims spin their rounds. The atmosphere is intense and soothing at the same time – a place that stimulates your senses.
After lunch, you head to the west side of the valley, where the iconic Swayambunath stupa towers on a green hill. The climb of 300 steps, under the watchful eyes of curious monkeys, takes you to a mystical place filled with statues, flags, prayer wheels, and panoramic views of Kathmandu. It is not without reason that this is also known as the ‘Monkey Temple’.
Optionally, you can round off the day with a visit to the old city center of Kathmandu, around Durbar Square, where centuries-old palaces and temples recall the valley’s royal past.
-
Day 3: From Kathmandu to the hills of Nagarkot via Dulikhel and Sanga
After a hearty breakfast, you bid farewell to bustling Kathmandu and head east out of the valley with a private driver and guide. The first stop is Dhulikhel, a charming Newari town that has played an important role for centuries on the ancient trade route between Nepal and Tibet.
Together with your guide, you walk through the historic center, where traditional Newari houses with wood carvings, small temples, and open squares are built in harmony according to ancient Hindu urban planning principles. On a clear day, you have one of the most beautiful vistas in Nepal here: the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas seem to float above the mist.
On the way to Nagarkot, you stop in Sanga, where Nepal’s largest Shiva statue proudly towers over the landscape. The impressive Kailashnath Mahadev is 44 meters tall and was built over a period of seven years. It is a special place to pause and reflect on the spiritual significance of Shiva for many Nepalese.
In the late afternoon, you arrive in Nagarkot, a small village at an altitude of 2,200 meters. Nagarkot is known for its panoramic views of the Himalayas, especially during sunrise and sunset. You can take a short walk in the surrounding area or simply relax on your hotel’s terrace and enjoy the fresh mountain air and the view.
-
Day 4: Authentic Nepal: from Nagarkot via Sankhu and Changu Narayan to Bhaktapur
After a quiet morning in the mountain village of Nagarkot, you start the day with a short drive to Sankhu, an ancient Newari settlement on the edge of the Kathmandu Valley. Sankhu still breathes the atmosphere of the Middle Ages: with its narrow alleys, traditional houses, temples, and retirement homes, it seems as if time has stood still here. The city is nicknamed Shankharapur, after its unique shell-shaped urban structure, and is also known for the sacred caves where, according to legend, eighty siddhas (wise ascetics) resided.
Together with your guide, you will also discover the Vajrayogini Temple, beautifully situated on the green slopes of the sacred Mount Manichua. This 17th-century temple is dedicated to the Tantric goddess Vajrayogini and is surrounded by statues and shrines.
After your visit, you travel on to Changu Narayan, the oldest Hindu temple complex in the Kathmandu Valley. This peaceful sanctuary is situated on a ridge and offers sweeping views of the surrounding area. The temple is dedicated to Vishnu and is known for its beautiful wood and copper work: a masterpiece of Newari craftsmanship.
You end the day in Bhaktapur, Nepal’s best-preserved medieval royal city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In this largely car-free city center, you wander among temples, squares, and artisans. Bhaktapur is famous for its pottery: in various squares, you can see thousands of earthenware pots drying in the sun—a photogenic sight. The lively atmosphere, authentic architecture, and crafts make Bhaktapur a highlight of your trip.
-
Day 5: Hidden gems of the Kathmandu Valley: Bungamati, Kirtipur and the royal city of Patan
Today you will discover some of the best-kept secrets of the Kathmandu Valley. In the traditional Newari villages of Khokana and Bungamati, you seem to travel back in time. Street life is still very much alive here: women weave, children play in the squares, and men work with wood or chat with neighbors in the sun. In Bungamati, you will visit the temple of Rato Machhendranath, an important deity for both Hindus and Buddhists.
Afterwards, your driver will take you to Kirtipur, a hidden city on a hill southwest of Kathmandu. Although less visited, this ancient city breathes history and culture. You will walk with your guide past the Chilancho Stupa, the Tri Ratna Temple Complex, and the royal district of Dev Pukku with its photogenic pond and old palace. The Bagh Bhairab Temple and the Uma Maheshwar Temple are also real eye-catchers – from here you have a beautiful view over the valley.
To conclude the day, you will visit the royal city of Patan, also known as Lalitpur. This charming city is known for its impressive Newari architecture, magnificent temples, and centuries-old crafts. You will visit Durbar Square with the Royal Palace, the stone-built Krishna Mandir, and the Golden Temple Complex. The city is also famous for its metalworkers and sculptors – along the way, you will see artisans at work on statues, jewelry, or singing bowls.
A day full of culture, history, and craftsmanship – perfect for travelers who want to experience the real Nepal.

Day 6: Final moments in the Kathmandu Valley & transfer to the airport

For example, visit the elegant Garden of Dreams, a neoclassical garden in the heart of Kathmandu where you can escape the hustle and bustle of the city for a while. Or take a taxi to Baber Mahal Revisited, a stylish complex in a former palace where you will find nice shops, art galleries, and cafes – ideal for buying that one unique souvenir.
You will be picked up from your hotel in Patan well in time for your international flight. The drive to the airport takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes, depending on traffic. Please ensure you are at the airport at least three hours before departure.
