Highlights

This 16-day highlights tour of Nepal takes you on a journey through the heart of the country: from the impressive mountain scenery and spiritual tranquillity of Pokhara to the authentic village life and sustainable coffee production in Pandeli. In Chitwan, you’ll immerse yourself in the rich biodiversity of the jungle during a canoeing and walking safari, and in Bhaktapur, you’ll round off the trip amongst ancient temples and vibrant crafts. Each of these experiences offers a unique insight into Nepal’s cultural and natural heritage – specially tailored for travellers seeking comfort, depth and wonder.

View of the Himalayas from Pokhara & the World Peace Pagoda

Pokhara is one of the most beautiful places in Nepal and provides the backdrop for enchanting views of the majestic Himalayas. What makes this experience so special is the combination of tranquillity, natural beauty and spiritual enrichment. You’ll stay in comfort at a hotel near picturesque Phewa Lake, where you can enjoy the reflection of the mountains in the water. During an optional activity, you’ll row across the lake and walk at your own pace up to the World Peace Pagoda, which was built not only as a symbol of world peace but also offers one of the best vantage points of the surrounding mountains. Here you’ll see the iconic Machhapuchhare (Fish Tail), Dhaulagiri and various peaks of the Annapurna range. This is a place that leaves you speechless – literally and figuratively.

Walk to Pandeli: Himalayan coffee & authentic village life

During the excursion to Pandeli, you’ll discover rural life in a way that few tourists ever experience. You’ll walk along an ancient path up to a remote village on the edge of the Sarangkot hills, where the air is filled with the aroma of freshly roasted coffee. Here you’ll meet the region’s small-scale coffee farmers, who grow organic Arabica coffee with the help of the non-profit organisation Sharing Seeds. You’ll learn about every stage of coffee cultivation: from seed to roasted bean. The tour is not only educational but also socially meaningful: through your visit, you contribute directly to improving these farmers’ incomes.

Safari experience in Chitwan National Park

Chitwan National Park is one of Asia’s oldest and best-known nature reserves and offers a unique opportunity to explore the Nepalese jungle without strenuous physical exertion. Your day begins with a relaxing canoe trip in a traditional dugout canoe. As you glide slowly down the river, you’ll see crocodiles basking on the banks, hear colourful birds singing, and you might even spot an elephant bathing. You then set foot ashore in the national park for a guided jungle walk led by an experienced nature guide. These guides recognise every sound and every track, and will help you spot rhinos, monkeys, wild boars, deer and who knows… perhaps even a tiger. The combination of silence, nature and wonder makes this a highlight for nature lovers.

The Royal City of Bhaktapur: living history and craftsmanship

Bhaktapur is like an open-air museum where the daily life of the Newari people unfolds amongst temples, palaces and pagodas. This former royal city exudes history, yet is full of life. In the impressive Durbar Square, you’ll see centuries-old architecture and sculptures, but just as fascinating are the side streets where potters still work their clay in the traditional way. Visit Pottery Square and try your hand at throwing a pot, or watch as the pots are fired in wood-fired kilns. Everywhere you go, you can smell incense, hear the bells of temple rituals and see local women carrying baskets full of vegetables or flowers for their daily offerings. And be sure to try the famous juju dhau, the local buffalo yoghurt served in small clay pots – a real treat with a story behind it. Bhaktapur is the perfect place to round off your trip in style, at a leisurely pace and with an appreciation for tradition.

  • Day 2: Exploring the spiritual heart of Kathmandu

Today, you’ll set off to explore the vibrant capital, Kathmandu, accompanied by an experienced English-speaking guide. This city, brimming with sound, colour and scent, is a fascinating blend of Hindu and Buddhist shrines. Around every corner lies a temple, an altar or a prayer flag.

You’ll start your day on the green hill of Swayambhunath, also known as the Monkey Temple. A staircase of around 300 steps leads you to this mysterious spot, where Buddhist symbolism and Hindu imagery intertwine. The monkeys roaming freely here make the climb all the more special. At the foot of the hill, you walk past prayer wheels to Amideva Buddha Park, where three large, gilded Buddha statues welcome you.

You will then visit the impressive Boudhanath Stupa, the largest in Nepal. As you walk around the stupa in the traditional clockwise direction alongside pilgrims and monks, you will hear Tibetan mantras drifting from the surrounding buildings. The atmosphere is serene, prayer flags flutter above your head, and the scent of incense hangs in the air.

In the afternoon, you’ll travel to Pashupatinath, one of the holiest Hindu temple complexes in the world. Although non-Hindus are not permitted to enter the temple itself, you can watch the rituals from the opposite bank of the river. Open-air cremations take place here along the banks of the sacred Bagmati River. The colourfully painted sadhus, holy men who have dedicated their lives to Shiva, are sometimes happy to have their photograph taken and to talk about their life’s journey.

A day full of spiritual impressions, intense images and special encounters.

Tip: Most of the sites you visit today are located at some altitude or require climbing some stairs. So wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water. Your guide is happy to adjust the pace so that you can fully enjoy this unique experience.

  • Day 3: Historical heritage and mountain landscapes: from Sankhu to Nagarkot

After breakfast, you’ll leave the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu in your private vehicle with a driver, heading for a quieter, more rural setting. Your first stop is the authentic Newar town of Sankhu, situated on an ancient trade route towards Tibet. In the narrow streets and traditional squares, time seems to stand still. Sankhu is also known as Shankharapur, due to its historic shell-shaped town layout.

Those interested in spirituality can take a short walk to the Vajrayogini Temple, situated on a hill outside the town. This remarkable temple, dedicated to a tantric Buddhist goddess, is a peaceful place full of symbolism and ancient statues.

Afterwards, the driver will take you to Changu Narayan, the oldest Hindu temple complex in the Kathmandu Valley. The complex sits on a ridge and offers stunning views over the surrounding valleys. Stroll at your leisure past ancient statues, exquisite wood carvings and centuries-old temple buildings dedicated to Vishnu. Those keen to learn more can optionally hire a local guide here.

Your day ends in Nagarkot, a charming mountain village at an altitude of over 2,000 metres. Here you can enjoy the peace and quiet, the lush greenery and – on a clear day – a breathtaking view of the Himalayas. A short nature walk in the area is possible, or you can simply settle down with a drink on the terrace to enjoy the mountain tranquillity.

Tip: Nagarkot is famous for its stunning sunrises. Set your alarm early – the first light of dawn on the snow-capped peaks is a magical moment you won’t soon forget.

  • Day 4: To the spiritual heart of Namobuddha

Today, you’ll drive for an hour and a half through a stunning hilly landscape to the serene Namobuddha. Along the way, you’ll see the landscape gradually change: from the forests around Nagarkot to the more open valleys and terraces of Kavre.

Namobuddha is one of the holiest Buddhist pilgrimage sites in Nepal and exudes tranquillity, spirituality and simplicity. You will be staying within walking distance of the impressive Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery, which you can explore at your own pace today.

The monastery is a modern Tibetan Buddhist complex, situated on a hilltop with sweeping views of the surrounding countryside. The main temple has six storeys, crowned with a gilded roof that glitters in the sun. Pujas (prayer rituals) take place here every morning and evening. As a visitor, you are welcome to sit quietly and experience these ceremonies – a unique and often deeply moving experience.

Dozens of monks live on the extensive grounds. You are free to wander around, enjoy the atmosphere in silence, strike up a conversation with a monk or take part in a meditation session.

Tip: Fancy taking a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life? The peaceful atmosphere of Namobuddha offers the perfect opportunity for silence, reflection and inner peace.

  • Day 5: The charm of the royal city of Patan, the city of arts and crafts

After breakfast, you’ll bid farewell to the tranquillity of Namobuddha and drive for about an hour and a half to the town of Patan – once an independent kingdom, now a vibrant part of the Kathmandu Valley.

Patan, also known as Lalitpur, is famous for its artistic heritage and craft traditions. The historic centre is a maze of narrow streets, courtyards and temples that reflect its rich Buddhist and Hindu past.

Be sure to visit the impressive Durbar Square, where palaces, pagodas and shrines come together in harmony. Be enchanted by the craftsmanship in the Golden Temple and admire the elegant Kumbheshwar Temple. In tranquil courtyards, you’ll discover ancient monasteries such as Uku Bahal and the Mahaboudha Temple, richly adorned with thousands of small stone Buddha statues.

Those keen to soak up the local culture can also visit the house of the Kumari – the young living goddess who still resides here. Stroll through narrow streets where metalworkers, sculptors and woodcarvers practise their centuries-old crafts – a living tradition that gives Patan its soul.

You have plenty of time today to explore at your own pace. Take a seat on a bench, soak up the atmosphere and let this royal city work its magic on you.

Tip: In Patan, you can see local artists at work in various places. Ideal for those who love photography or are looking for a unique handmade souvenir.

  • Day 6: To the charming hill town of Bandipur

After breakfast, you’ll leave the Kathmandu Valley for a scenic drive towards the hills of western Nepal. After a journey of around five hours, you’ll reach Bandipur, a historic Newar town that feels like a step back in time.

Perched on a ridge, Bandipur is a real gem for those who love atmosphere and views. The traditional stone streets are car-free and lined with beautifully preserved mansions, small temples and wooden balconies overflowing with flowers.

You have the afternoon free to explore this cultural highlight at your own pace. Walk to the Thani Mai Temple for a breathtaking view of the valley and (on a clear day) the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas. You can also enjoy sweeping panoramas from the Tundikhel lawn, just outside the town centre.

Bandipur is also a place where various Nepalese communities live together, which is reflected in the architecture and daily life in the narrow streets.

In the evening, it’s a real treat to sit on a terrace. As the sun sets and tranquillity returns to the village, you can soak up the relaxed atmosphere that makes Bandipur so special.

Tip: It’s best to explore Bandipur on foot – the town is compact and charming, and you’ll discover its most beautiful spots simply by strolling around at a leisurely pace.

  • Day 7: Optional day walk from Bandipur to Ramkot – explore at your own pace

Today, you have a wonderful free day ahead of you in the charming town of Bandipur. This area is perfect for an active day out, with various walking routes in the hills surrounding the town.

Highly recommended is the walk to Ramkot, an authentic Magar village that still exudes the charm of days gone by. The route takes you along rural paths, terraced fields and small hamlets. Along the way, you’ll enjoy beautiful views and meet friendly, smiling locals.

Ramkot is known for its traditional architecture, including one of the last original round thatched houses in the region. At the end of the village, you can stop for a break at a simple little restaurant with a phenomenal view of the Himalayas. On a clear day, you can see the peaks of Dhaulagiri, the Annapurna range, Manaslu and even Langtang.

You can do this walk independently, but if you’d like some extra guidance or don’t want to find your own way, you can arrange a local guide through your accommodation. Transport by jeep for the return journey is also easy to arrange, should you prefer not to walk both ways.

Tip: This walk isn’t difficult, but hiring a guide is definitely recommended if you’d like to learn more about the villages along the way and enjoy the route without any worries. Ask about it at your guesthouse!

  • Day 8: Discover Lake Phewa and the charm of Pokhara

Today you’ll travel from tranquil Bandipur to Pokhara, one of the absolute highlights of your Nepal adventure. Pokhara is beautifully situated on the shores of Lake Phewa, surrounded by green hills and offering breathtaking views of the snow-capped Annapurna mountains – perfect for those who love a combination of nature and relaxation.

On arrival, you’ll have free time to enjoy the lake and the relaxed atmosphere of Pokhara. Take a leisurely stroll along the waterfront and observe the daily life of the local fishermen and boat builders. Or take a relaxing boat trip to the small island with the Tal Barahi Temple, a serene spot where you can completely unwind.

For those who fancy a bit more exercise, a visit to the World Peace Pagoda is highly recommended. A short half-hour walk uphill from the lake takes you to this pagoda on a hill, where, on a clear day, you’ll have a fantastic view of the lake, the city and the Himalayas.

Tip: Take the time in the evening to attend an Aarti ceremony by Lake Phewa. This special Hindu ritual, featuring offerings of light, provides a atmospheric end to the day and offers a wonderful cultural experience during your highlights tour of Nepal.

  • Day 9: Hike to Pandeli – Discover Himalayan coffee and authentic rural life

Today you’ll start a bit later, around 11:00 a.m., and take a special hike from Pokhara to the charming village of Pandeli, situated high up near Sarangkot. Accompanied by an experienced guide, you’ll hike along an old trekking trail through nature all the way to Pandeli.

During the hike, you’ll enjoy beautiful scenery and meet friendly villagers. The path winds through the jungle, offering a chance to spot rare birds and plants. Along the way, you’ll have a stunning view of Phewa Lake and Pokhara city, and on a clear day, you can see the impressive peaks of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri.

You’ll have lunch with the women of the village of Pandeli: a delicious organic meal surrounded by nature, including a tasting of fresh coffee and honey from the region.

You’ll get a fascinating glimpse into the entire coffee-growing process: from germinating the seeds, cultivating and harvesting the coffee berries, to processing and roasting the coffee. The coffee farmers are supported by Sharing Seeds, a local nonprofit organization that helps them with training and knowledge exchange. Thanks to this support, the farmers receive up to 30% more for their coffee, making coffee cultivation on this poor land highly valuable.

Tip: Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a sun hat. The hike is mildly challenging as you are mostly going uphill, but manageable for travelers aged 55+ with average fitness.

  • Day 10: Free day in Pokhara – Explore Lake Phewa and the breathtaking views of the Annapurna range

Pokhara, situated on the beautiful Phewa Lake, is an oasis of tranquility and natural beauty. This charming town lies at an altitude of about 880 meters, considerably lower than Kathmandu, but closer to the majestic Himalayas. From here, it is only 30 km to the highest peaks of the Annapurna range, offering spectacular views of the snow-capped summits such as Dhaulagiri, Machhapuchhare (Fish Tail), Annapurna South, and Annapurna I. Pokhara is the starting and ending point of many famous treks and a beloved destination for travelers who want to fully enjoy nature and culture on their highlight tour of Nepal.

Today you have complete freedom to explore Pokhara at your own pace. For example, take a leisurely boat ride across Phewa Lake to the small island with the Tal Barahi Temple, or stroll along the water’s edge and enjoy the daily life of the fishermen.

We highly recommend taking a small boat across the lake and walking from there to the World Peace Pagoda, also known as the Shanti Stupa. This peace pagoda, built by a Japanese Buddhist monk, symbolizes peace and offers a stunning panoramic view of Pokhara, the lake, and the surrounding mountains. The walk uphill takes about an hour and is a bit steeper, but manageable for travelers aged 55 and older who are in reasonably good shape. The descent takes about 45 minutes and ends at a cozy terrace.

Those who prefer cycling can rent a bike and take a ride along the lake, where you can fully experience the local fishing life and rural atmosphere. Along the way, you’ll come across several nice places to eat, such as Swings by Karma or the Talapia fish restaurant, where you can rest with a snack and a drink.

Be sure to visit the colorful old bazaar of Pokhara with its narrow streets, local shops, and the impressive Bindhyabasini Temple, an important site for the local population. For those interested in spirituality and culture, the nearby Tibetan Buddhist monasteries Matepani Gompa and Pema Tsal Sakya Gompa make for a lovely outing.

Tip 1: Start the day early for the hike to the World Peace Pagoda to avoid the heat and enjoy the fresh morning air and the chance of clear views.

Tip 2: There are also many organized activities available in and around Pokhara, including:
    – Day excursion ‘The Highlights in and around Pokhara’ with an English-speaking guide and transport
    – Cooking workshop on making momos at Tashiling Refugee Settlement
    – Half-day guided mountain bike tour (Sweet Pame)
    – Rafting trip

  • Day 11: To the Terai – A peaceful arrival in Sauraha, on the edge of Chitwan National Park

Today you’ll leave the mountains behind and travel south to Nepal’s warm, low-lying Terai region. The drive from Pokhara to Sauraha takes about 4 to 5 hours and takes you through a varied landscape of hills, rice paddies, and villages.

Around noon, you’ll arrive in Sauraha, a quiet village on the edge of the world-famous Chitwan National Park. This park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the highlights of your Nepal adventure. Here, a completely different environment awaits you: vast jungle, wide rivers, and the unique cultural heritage of the Tharu community.

After arriving, you can explore the village at your own pace. Take a leisurely stroll along the Rapti River, where you can often see rhinos, elephants, and buffaloes bathing in the water. The sunset by the river is also breathtaking and definitely worth enjoying with a drink.

You’ll stay at a lodge with rescued elephants, so you can admire these magnificent animals up close as they roam freely in their natural habitat, right next to your lodge. A truly special experience!

Tip: Wear airy, light clothing and a hat or cap – it can get warm here, especially in the afternoon. Also, don’t forget your binoculars if you enjoy birdwatching or wildlife spotting!

  • Day 12: Silence on the river and excitement in the jungle – exploring Chitwan National Park

Today you will experience one of the most unique nature experiences of your Nepal highlights trip. Together with an experienced nature guide, you will trek into nature for a full day, deep into Chitwan National Park – Nepal’s oldest national park and home to rhinos, elephants, monkeys, crocodiles, and hundreds of bird species, among others.

Your day begins with a peaceful canoe trip of about 45 minutes on the Rapti River. You will paddle in a traditional wooden canoe, hollowed out from a tree trunk. As the boat glides gently along, you have the chance to spot animals along the banks in complete silence. You will often see marsh crocodiles, colorful kingfishers, herons, and perhaps even a bathing elephant here.

After the boat trip, you will arrive at the national park itself, where an experienced nature guide will take you on a jungle walk. Together, you will follow the tracks of wild animals and learn more about their behavior, habitat, and survival techniques. The guides are well-trained and know where the chances of seeing rhinos or monkeys are highest—from a safe distance, of course.

The jungle walk usually takes place in small groups. This makes it not only interesting but also sociable. You share this impressive experience with other travelers from all over the world.

Tip: Sturdy walking shoes, long trousers and sleeves, preferably in natural colours, and a cap or hat are highly recommended. Also, don’t forget your insect repellent, especially in the warmer season.

  • Day 13:

Today, you will enjoy the unique scenery of Royal Chitwan National Park at your own pace, an absolute highlight of your Nepal highlights tour. Sauraha and the surrounding villages offer access not only to the park’s rich nature but also to the warm culture of the Tharu people.

You can relax by the water, go birdwatching, or simply enjoy the slow pace of life on the edge of the jungle.

There are various activities available that you can book on-site or in advance through your lodge. Since it is forbidden to enter the park without a guide, you will always be accompanied by experienced nature guides:

Early morning: Bird walk – an ideal time to observe the hundreds of bird species of Chitwan.
During the day: A new jungle walk or a jeep safari, either combined or separately.
By bike: Rent a bike and explore the villages surrounding the park. Here, you will get a unique glimpse into the life of the local population.

Tip: Be sure to take the time today to enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets in Nepal at your lodge or on a riverside terrace, with a view of the jungle landscape and the gentle sounds of nature around you.

Please note: During the monsoon season (June to September), some parts of the park are difficult to access and it can be too hot for longer hikes. Your guide will help you choose a suitable program.

  • Day 14: Spiritual peace in the hills of Pharping

After the jungle adventure in Chitwan, you return towards the Kathmandu Valley. You travel for about five hours to the traditional Newari village of Pharping, a spiritual oasis in the green hills just outside the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu.

This charming village is a unique stop on your Nepal highlights tour: it is an important pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhists, and the serene atmosphere is immediately palpable upon arrival.

Pharping is situated on a ridge overlooking the valley and is home to several impressive Buddhist monasteries. The Neydo Tashi Choeling Monastery, home to nearly 200 monks, is an absolute must-see. Incidentally, you will be staying right next to this monastery. If you are lucky, you can attend a prayer ceremony in the beautifully painted main hall, where an imposing statue of Sakyamuni Buddha welcomes you.

Not far from the monastery lies the Asura Cave, also known as the Guru Rinpoche Cave. This sacred place is said to be the location where Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava) attained enlightenment. The place is small but intense – a moment of tranquility to find stillness.

The Vajra Yogini Temple, dedicated to a female Tantric goddess, is also well worth a visit. This temple attracts mainly women, who pray here for inner strength and protection.

Tip: Pharping is perfect for ending your trip in peace. Stroll through the village at your own pace, sample local Newari specialties, and let the tranquility of the monasteries sink in. The sunset over the hills here is magical – a quiet moment to reflect on your journey in Nepal.

  • Day 15: Royal City of Bhaktapur – among temples, potters, and traditions

After a leisurely breakfast in Pharping, you drive for just over an hour to Bhaktapur, one of the most beautiful historical cities in Nepal. This is the cultural grand finale of your Nepal highlights tour – a place where time seems to stand still.

Bhaktapur is the best-preserved of the three imperial cities in the Kathmandu Valley and a true open-air museum. At Durbar Square, you can admire centuries-old temples, palaces with wooden balconies, and ornate masonry. In the small streets, you will also repeatedly come across surprising pagodas, courtyards, and artisan workshops.

Bhaktapur is known as the city of potters. You can see the traditional craft come to life, especially at Pottery Square. Here, men and women turn large clay wheels into bowls, pots, and sculptures, which you can see drying in the sun in long rows. It is not only photogenic but also very special to see how this craftsmanship has been passed down from generation to generation. Also try Bhaktapur’s famous yogurt
No visit to Bhaktapur is complete without a bowl of juju dhau – literally: “the king of yogurt”. This rich buffalo yogurt with a custard-like flavor is traditionally served in small terracotta pots. You can find juju dhau at almost every street stall, and it is the perfect treat during a break on a shady bench.

Tip: Try throwing a pot yourself!
In one of the workshops at Pottery Square, you can get your hands dirty under the guidance of a local artisan – a fun and tangible souvenir of your trip.

    Optional:
You can also book a guided city walk today, where you will learn more about the religious symbolism of the temples, the history of Bhaktapur as a royal capital, and how the daily life of the residents is intertwined with ancient traditions.

After an intense and varied highlight tour through Nepal, the moment has come to say goodbye to the land of temples, mountains, and warm encounters. Your driver will pick you up at your hotel in Bhaktapur and take you to Kathmandu airport in time for your international return flight.

    Practical information:

You will be picked up at your hotel at least 3 hours before departure. Do you have a late flight? No problem: after checking out, you can safely leave your luggage at the accommodation and perhaps take a final walk or quietly read a book in a local café.

It is located in the heart of Bandipur, a car-free mountain village with stunning views of the Himalayas. The rooms exude character and authenticity. The wooden balconies and atmospheric courtyard transport you back in time. This is a place where you truly feel like time stands still.

Pokhara
In Pokhara, you will stay at a peaceful, small-scale hotel surrounded by blooming gardens, within walking distance of Lake Phewa. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and you will be welcomed with warm hospitality. This is a wonderful place to unwind after a day full of impressions, with birdsong in the background and views of the mountains on clear days.

Chitwan
On the edge of Chitwan National Park, you will stay at an eco-lodge that works closely with the local Tharu community. The rooms are built in a traditional style, and the lodge has its own rescued elephants, which can roam freely. Here, you feel like you are in the middle of nature. The sunset by the river is a moment you will never forget. Pharping
You will stay at a hotel that is part of a large Buddhist monastery. The rooms are comfortable and simple, with views of the surrounding hills. The stay exudes spirituality and serenity. You will regularly attend ceremonies performed by the monks – a unique experience in a special place.

You will conclude the trip at an atmospheric hotel in the heart of the old city of Bhaktapur, a stone’s throw from Durbar Square. • How physically demanding is this trip? Is it feasible for travelers over 55?

Yes, this trip is specifically designed for active travelers aged 55+. There are no multi-day treks in the program. You will take occasional short walks (for example, in the nature of Chitwan or to viewpoints such as the World Peace Pagoda), but always at your own pace. Transportation can be provided or adjusted where necessary.

  • Are the accommodations comfortable enough for elderly travelers?

Yes. All accommodations have been carefully selected for comfort, accessibility, and tranquility. You will stay in small-scale hotels, lodges, and resorts with comfortable beds, good sanitary facilities, and often a beautiful garden or seating area to relax. Some accommodations are eco-friendly or have a social project as their mission. If you would like a hotel with a pool here and there, feel free to ask us about upgrades.

  • How is transportation arranged during the trip?

You will travel in a private car with a driver who speaks (basic) English. This means you have flexibility, can stop where necessary, and sit comfortably. There are no shared buses or local transport. However, for some organized excursions, you will share a vehicle with other travelers to the starting and ending points (e.g., Chitwan). Do not expect your driver to be a guide as well: that is not the case in Nepal.

  • What is the best time to travel for this 16-day highlights trip in Nepal?

The best time to travel for this tour is spring (March to mid-May) and autumn (October to mid-December). During these periods, you will enjoy pleasant temperatures, clear views of the Himalayas, and a low chance of precipitation.

Autumn is the most popular period: after the monsoon, the air is crystal clear and temperatures are comfortable, even in higher places like Nagarkot or Bandipur. This is also the busiest period.

In spring, the hills are in bloom, with rhododendrons among other things, and it is usually warm during the day but not too hot. It can rain more often, however, and the chance that you will see the mountains every day is small.

The trip is certainly also possible during the winter months (December to February). It is often sunny and dry during the day, but the mornings and evenings can be chilly, especially in the hills. Our accommodations provide blankets and often heating upon request, making this period suitable if you wish to avoid the crowds.

During the summer months (June to September), it is the monsoon season: it rains regularly, is warm in the South (Chitwan), and the views are less clear. Nevertheless, travel is still possible during this period, although it requires adjusted expectations and extra flexibility.

  • What should I bring in terms of clothing?

Layering is important. In spring and autumn, it can be chilly in the mountains in the mornings and evenings, while it is pleasantly warm during the day. It is usually warmer in Chitwan and Pokhara. Bring comfortable walking shoes, light clothing, a warm sweater or jacket for the evenings, sun protection, and possibly a light raincoat.

  • What about altitude sickness during this trip?

There are no overnight stays at extreme altitudes. The highest place you stay is Nagarkot at approximately 2,000 meters. This is not a problem for most people, so you do not need to worry about altitude sickness.

  • Is the guidance in Dutch or English?

All excursions are with English-speaking guides, and support from our on-site office is also in English. We do not have Dutch-speaking guides available.

  • What about meals during this trip?

Breakfast is always included. In some places (such as Pandeli, Namobuddha, or during an excursion in Chitwan), lunch or dinner is also included. In other cities, you choose your own restaurant – we are happy to provide tips for nice, safe, and local eateries. Dietary requirements or vegetarian options are always taken into account.

  • Can I book this trip individually or travel only with my partner/friends?

Yes. This is a private trip, which means you will be taking this trip with your own party (for example, as a couple, friends, or family). So, you will not be traveling in a group. If you prefer to travel solo, that is also possible. Please note, however, that the prices listed on this website are always based on two people. Feel free to ask us for a customized price for your solo trip!

  • What happens in an emergency?

We are available on-site 24/7. You will receive our phone numbers and the names of the contact persons approximately three weeks before departure. Travel insurance is mandatory for our trips: please check whether it covers medical expenses and repatriation. Cancellation insurance is also highly recommended!

  • Should I give tips during this trip to Nepal?

Tipping is customary in Nepal and is highly appreciated, especially in the tourism sector. Although tipping is not mandatory, it is an important way to show appreciation to guides, drivers, and hotel staff.

For this 16-day highlights trip in Nepal, we recommend the following guideline amount per person:

    – Driver for the entire trip: 2 to 3 euros per day
    – Local guides (for excursions): 2 to 3 euros for a half-day activity
    – Porters in hotels: approximately 50 to 100 rupees per suitcase (0.50 to 1 euro)
    – Staff at your lodge or hotel: a small contribution to the communal tip jar is customary (around 1 to 2 euros per night)

On some excursions (such as in Chitwan), you may be accompanied by multiple local guides. In these cases, a joint tip is usually given at the end and divided among them.

We recommend always carrying some small change or Nepalese rupees in cash for tips. Your guides will never ask for a tip themselves, but they greatly appreciate it if you acknowledge their efforts in this way.
